Patch 4.0.1 PTR – Build 13033

As of Sep. 24th, 2010:

  • Bane of Doom now deals damage every 15 sec, down from 30 sec. Now has a 20% chance to summon a Demon guardian, down from 25%. Only one target can have Bane of Doom at a time, only one Bane per Warlock can be active on any one target.
  • Cool stuff.  Remember, if it’s a fight that will last more than a minute (most raid bosses), throw in a Bane of Doom into your rotation right at the start. (Imp attack, Bane of Doom, Immolate, Chaos Bolt, Conflag, Incinerate, Game of Priorities).  % to summon demon is higher now, 4 chances at 20% is better than 2 chances at 25%.

  • Burning Embers – The Burning Ember effect deals up to [ 0.071%/0.143% of Spell Power + 23.921 ] fire damage every 1 sec for 7 sec.
  • I have no idea what this means.  I think the max damage it can do was lowered.  And the PTR is currently offline but I’m trying to get on before I go to bed so I can update properly.  Before, at self buffs and no procs I would have a maximum damage output of 3915 fire damage / second out of this spell.

Burning Embers is now messed up.  It is sustaining about 500-650 dps, though at one point it rose up to 820 dps / sec.  Something was also changed because my mana was suddenly draining at twice the rate it was previously.

Anyhow, down from the 15k dps I was now pushing 12k, almost hitting 13k.  The imp does roughly 2.2k down from the 5.5k it was doing.  The math adds up, roughly.

The tooltips on Burning Embers still say 3915 max fire damage per second as they did before, but I assume the tooltip wasn’t update.  The damage calculations also don’t quite reset with every firebolt but they no longer add up exponentially.

Final parse showed Burning Embers doing 7.5% of my total damage done, down from the 40% from earlier.  I think it was brought down a bit lower than it should, I would see it counting around 10% of total damage, and wouldn’t be surprised f it was to be raised to about that level.

Anyhow, stay tuned for more changes 😀

Oh how I’m getting the Cataclysm bug 😦

p.s. I’m in Washington DC until late Sunday, possibly Monday morning, so any fun new ways the devs will make or break our spec will escape my notice until then!
